Alaska's electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure is experiencing significant growth, fueled by federal funding and strategic state initiatives. The state's FY26 Electric Vehicle Implementation Plan, bolstered by over $52 million in federal National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure (NEVI) funding, aims to establish a robust network. This commitment has led to a notable increase in charging options, with DC fast-charging ports growing by 113% and Level 2 ports by 16% between 2021 and 2023, supporting a steadily rising EV adoption rate across the state.
A key focus of this expansion is along Alaska's major transportation corridors. The first phase of the NEVI plan prioritizes completing the Alternative Fuel Corridor between Anchorage and Fairbanks, targeting nine charging sites with NEVI-compliant fast chargers. Additionally, the Alaska Energy Authority has utilized Volkswagen Settlement Trust funds to develop an existing fast-charging network connecting the Kenai Peninsula to Healy, featuring 15 fast chargers and eight Level 2 chargers strategically placed within 100 miles of each other in nine communities.

There are currently 73 EV charging stations in Alaska, including Tesla Superchargers, ChargePoint, Electrify America, and other networks. This number is growing as new stations are deployed through the NEVI federal program and private investment.
Alaska has Level 2 chargers (240V, ideal for daily charging at 12-80 miles/hour) and DC Fast Chargers (DCFC) that can add 100+ miles of range in 20-30 minutes. Connector types include CCS, CHAdeMO, J1772, and Tesla NACS. Use Charge Map USA's filters to find the right charger for your vehicle.
Some Level 2 charging stations in Alaska offer free charging, particularly at shopping centers, hotels, and municipal locations. Use Charge Map USA to browse stations across 27 cities in Alaska and check individual station details for pricing information.
