Arkansas is experiencing substantial growth in its electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure, significantly fueled by federal funding. Between 2021 and 2023, the state saw an 83% increase in direct current (DC) fast-charging ports and an 85% rise in Level 2 charging ports. By the close of 2024, Arkansas boasted 936 public charging ports, marking a 150% increase from 2021, with 199 fast-charging and 385 Level 2 options available to nearly 11,000 new EVs sold in the state since 2019.
A primary driver of this expansion is the National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure (NEVI) Formula Program, which will provide Arkansas with $54.1 million over five years. The Arkansas Department of Transportation (ArDOT) is strategically deploying these charging stations along key interstate highways designated as Alternative Fuel Corridors (AFCs), specifically Interstates 30, 40, and 49. The NEVI program requires charging stations to be approximately every 50 miles along these interstates and within one mile of an exit.
In April 2024, ArDOT allocated nearly $15 million for 19 new EV charging stations, predominantly situated along these critical interstates, with one planned for U.S. Highway 412 in Siloam Springs. The state aims for a minimum of 15 NEVI-compliant charging sites on its interstates and AFCs, with a broader goal of establishing over 50 such sites statewide to further support EV adoption and travel.

There are currently 366 EV charging stations in Arkansas, including Tesla Superchargers, ChargePoint, Electrify America, and other networks. This number is growing as new stations are deployed through the NEVI federal program and private investment.
Arkansas has Level 2 chargers (240V, ideal for daily charging at 12-80 miles/hour) and DC Fast Chargers (DCFC) that can add 100+ miles of range in 20-30 minutes. Connector types include CCS, CHAdeMO, J1772, and Tesla NACS. Use Charge Map USA's filters to find the right charger for your vehicle.
Some Level 2 charging stations in Arkansas offer free charging, particularly at shopping centers, hotels, and municipal locations. Use Charge Map USA to browse stations across 77 cities in Arkansas and check individual station details for pricing information.
