Colorado has emerged as a national leader in electric vehicle adoption and the expansion of its charging infrastructure, driven by robust state initiatives and significant federal investment. The state has seen substantial growth, particularly in fast-charging capabilities along critical transportation corridors. Currently, Colorado boasts over 1,100 fast-charging ports and an estimated 4,400 AC-level charging ports statewide. Future plans include installing approximately 400 new fast-charging ports in 2025, representing a one-third increase, further supported by over $56 million in federal NEVI Program funding.
A key focus of this expansion has been the development of fast-charging corridors along major highways. Initiatives, including partnerships with companies like ChargePoint, have strategically placed charging stations along I-70, Highway 40, Highway 50, and Highway 550, effectively increasing corridor fast-charging coverage from 40% to nearly 80% in key areas. These sites are situated at convenience stores, visitor centers, and even near outdoor recreation areas along 19 of Colorado's 26 scenic byways, ensuring comprehensive accessibility for the state's rapidly growing number of EV drivers.

There are currently 1,000 EV charging stations in Colorado, including Tesla Superchargers, ChargePoint, Electrify America, and other networks. This number is growing as new stations are deployed through the NEVI federal program and private investment.
Colorado has Level 2 chargers (240V, ideal for daily charging at 12-80 miles/hour) and DC Fast Chargers (DCFC) that can add 100+ miles of range in 20-30 minutes. Connector types include CCS, CHAdeMO, J1772, and Tesla NACS. Use Charge Map USA's filters to find the right charger for your vehicle.
Some Level 2 charging stations in Colorado offer free charging, particularly at shopping centers, hotels, and municipal locations. Use Charge Map USA to browse stations across 203 cities in Colorado and check individual station details for pricing information.
