Georgia is experiencing substantial expansion in its electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure, with the state aspiring to be a leader in the Southeast for EV development. This growth is fueled by a combination of state-led initiatives and significant federal investment, particularly through programs like the National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure (NEVI). The state has seen an exponential increase in EV adoption, with sales rising from 1.2% in 2020 to 10% in 2024. This surge in EV registrations, reaching over 150,000 by May 2025, is being met with a rapidly expanding network of public charging stations, which totaled approximately 6,500 public charging ports by the same period.
A core focus of Georgia's strategy is to establish robust charging networks along its major transportation arteries. The Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) has designated eight interstates and two US Route/State Highways as "EV ready" corridors, facilitating long-distance travel for EV owners. Federal funding, approximately $135 million from the NEVI program, is specifically targeting the installation of charging points on currently underserved interstate and highway segments. Notably, Interstates 16 and 95 in Coastal Georgia, as well as US 441 (from Cornelia to Dublin) and US 82 (from Brunswick to Albany), are slated to receive new DC fast-charging stations. These additions are projected to increase the state's EV charging network by about 25%, covering an additional 330 miles. The goal is to ensure reliable charging access every 50 miles, with recent approvals for 26 new DC fast-charging stations along federally designated Alternative Fuel Corridors, each equipped with multiple chargers capable of a full recharge in as little as 20 minutes.

There are currently 1,000 EV charging stations in Georgia, including Tesla Superchargers, ChargePoint, Electrify America, and other networks. This number is growing as new stations are deployed through the NEVI federal program and private investment.
Georgia has Level 2 chargers (240V, ideal for daily charging at 12-80 miles/hour) and DC Fast Chargers (DCFC) that can add 100+ miles of range in 20-30 minutes. Connector types include CCS, CHAdeMO, J1772, and Tesla NACS. Use Charge Map USA's filters to find the right charger for your vehicle.
Some Level 2 charging stations in Georgia offer free charging, particularly at shopping centers, hotels, and municipal locations. Use Charge Map USA to browse stations across 241 cities in Georgia and check individual station details for pricing information.
