EV charging infrastructure in Idaho is experiencing significant growth, driven by federal funding and strategic state planning. From 2021 to 2023, the state recorded a 67% increase in direct current fast-charging (DCFC) ports and a 45% increase in Level 2 charging ports. This expansion is heavily supported by the National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure (NEVI) Program, which is projected to provide Idaho with nearly $30 million for developing its charging network. The program mandates the deployment of high-powered DCFC stations at regular intervals along key routes.
Idaho's strategic deployment focuses on establishing a robust network across its Alternative Fuel Corridors (AFCs). These include major highways such as I-15, I-84, I-86, I-90, US-12, US-20, US-30, US-93, US-95, and State Highway 55. The aim is to create an interconnected DCFC network that not only serves daily commuters but also facilitates long-distance travel, connects rural communities, and supports tourism, especially for destinations like Yellowstone National Park and various ski resorts. Local initiatives, such as Idaho Falls Power's project to open new charging stations near I-15 and US-20, further contribute to this growing infrastructure.

There are currently 235 EV charging stations in Idaho, including Tesla Superchargers, ChargePoint, Electrify America, and other networks. This number is growing as new stations are deployed through the NEVI federal program and private investment.
Idaho has Level 2 chargers (240V, ideal for daily charging at 12-80 miles/hour) and DC Fast Chargers (DCFC) that can add 100+ miles of range in 20-30 minutes. Connector types include CCS, CHAdeMO, J1772, and Tesla NACS. Use Charge Map USA's filters to find the right charger for your vehicle.
Some Level 2 charging stations in Idaho offer free charging, particularly at shopping centers, hotels, and municipal locations. Use Charge Map USA to browse stations across 58 cities in Idaho and check individual station details for pricing information.
