Indiana is actively expanding its electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure, with significant growth observed in recent years. This expansion is largely propelled by state and federal programs like the "Charging the Crossroads" initiative and funding from the National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure (NEVI) program, which allocates nearly $100 million to the state. These efforts are focused on building a comprehensive network of EV fast-charging stations along Indiana's primary transportation arteries.
Key highways and interstates are central to this development, including all interstates and U.S. 31, with U.S. 30 also under consideration for future expansion. The goal is to ensure that charging stations are strategically located no more than 50 miles apart and within one mile of an interchange. From 2021 to 2023, Indiana saw a 100% increase in DC fast-charging ports and a 48% rise in Level 2 charging ports, demonstrating a strong upward trend in accessibility. As of late 2024, the state had over 640 charging stations and 1,770 charging ports, further enhanced by the "GO Electric Vehicle INdiana (GOEVIN)" initiative and innovative projects like the wireless-charging highway segment being developed with Purdue University.

There are currently 688 EV charging stations in Indiana, including Tesla Superchargers, ChargePoint, Electrify America, and other networks. This number is growing as new stations are deployed through the NEVI federal program and private investment.
Indiana has Level 2 chargers (240V, ideal for daily charging at 12-80 miles/hour) and DC Fast Chargers (DCFC) that can add 100+ miles of range in 20-30 minutes. Connector types include CCS, CHAdeMO, J1772, and Tesla NACS. Use Charge Map USA's filters to find the right charger for your vehicle.
Some Level 2 charging stations in Indiana offer free charging, particularly at shopping centers, hotels, and municipal locations. Use Charge Map USA to browse stations across 147 cities in Indiana and check individual station details for pricing information.
