Missouri is experiencing a notable expansion in its electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure, largely fueled by federal NEVI program funding and state and private investments. As of January 2026, the state has 1,333 public charging stations with 3,200 ports, including a significant increase in DC fast-charging ports (86% growth between 2021-2023) and Level 2 ports (14% growth). The state is projected to receive nearly $99 million from the NEVI program through fiscal year 2026, dedicated to building a comprehensive statewide EV charging network.
A primary focus of this development is along Missouri's key Alternative Fuels Corridors, ensuring charging availability approximately every 50 miles. Major highways benefiting from this expansion include I-29, I-35, I-44, I-49, I-55, and I-70, with established charging points in and around major urban centers like Kansas City and St. Louis. MoDOT's deployment plan specifically aims to close existing gaps between stations on these interstate routes, with proposed new locations in various towns such as Craig, Saint Robert, Lamar, and Concordia, among others.
While urban and suburban areas like Jackson, Platte, St. Louis City, St. Louis County, and Clay County lead in charging station density, a substantial number of Missouri's counties still lack any EV infrastructure. Nevertheless, ongoing initiatives and planned deployments indicate a strong and sustained effort to create a more robust and interconnected EV charging network across the state's vital transportation arteries, enhancing accessibility for both residents and travelers.

There are currently 1,000 EV charging stations in Missouri, including Tesla Superchargers, ChargePoint, Electrify America, and other networks. This number is growing as new stations are deployed through the NEVI federal program and private investment.
Missouri has Level 2 chargers (240V, ideal for daily charging at 12-80 miles/hour) and DC Fast Chargers (DCFC) that can add 100+ miles of range in 20-30 minutes. Connector types include CCS, CHAdeMO, J1772, and Tesla NACS. Use Charge Map USA's filters to find the right charger for your vehicle.
Some Level 2 charging stations in Missouri offer free charging, particularly at shopping centers, hotels, and municipal locations. Use Charge Map USA to browse stations across 162 cities in Missouri and check individual station details for pricing information.
