Oklahoma is experiencing a significant surge in its electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure, propelled by substantial federal funding and strategic public-private collaborations. The state has emerged as a key area for EV infrastructure development, demonstrating one of the highest percentage growths in charging ports relative to the number of EVs. This expansion is largely supported by the National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure (NEVI) Formula Program, which will allocate over $66 million to Oklahoma over five years to establish a comprehensive nationwide charging network.
A primary focus of this development is the establishment of robust EV charging corridors along Oklahoma's major interstate highways: I-35, I-40, and I-44. These critical routes, along with several state and U.S. highways, have been designated as Alternative Fuel Corridors. In the initial phase, the Oklahoma Department of Transportation (ODOT) has awarded more than $8 million in federal funds, supplemented by $7 million in private investment, to construct 13 high-speed charging stations. These stations, equipped with multiple 150 kW or higher charging ports, are strategically located within 50 miles of existing or planned sites and are expected to be fully operational by 2025, effectively completing the charging corridors on the aforementioned interstates.
While some reports indicate a gradual increase in the total number of public charging ports, Oklahoma is a leader in terms of EV fast charging stations per capita, ensuring robust coverage along key highways. Future plans include an additional allocation of over $33 million in NEVI funding to bolster DCFC infrastructure on other important routes like SH-51, US-62, and US-75. Furthermore, over $14 million is earmarked for expanding community-based EV charging infrastructure once the primary Alternative Fuel Corridors are fully established, aiming to alleviate "range anxiety" and support the growing adoption of electric vehicles across the state.

There are currently 387 EV charging stations in Oklahoma, including Tesla Superchargers, ChargePoint, Electrify America, and other networks. This number is growing as new stations are deployed through the NEVI federal program and private investment.
Oklahoma has Level 2 chargers (240V, ideal for daily charging at 12-80 miles/hour) and DC Fast Chargers (DCFC) that can add 100+ miles of range in 20-30 minutes. Connector types include CCS, CHAdeMO, J1772, and Tesla NACS. Use Charge Map USA's filters to find the right charger for your vehicle.
Some Level 2 charging stations in Oklahoma offer free charging, particularly at shopping centers, hotels, and municipal locations. Use Charge Map USA to browse stations across 101 cities in Oklahoma and check individual station details for pricing information.
