Oregon's electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure is undergoing substantial expansion, demonstrating an average annual growth of 30% since 2018. This period has seen a significant increase in charging options, with direct current fast-charging (DCFC) ports growing by 82% and Level 2 charging ports by 21% between 2021 and 2023. This rapid development is essential to support the state's growing EV fleet, which comprises over 126,000 registered vehicles, as efforts continue to align charging availability with increasing EV adoption rates. The Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT) is committed to further enhancing this network, with plans to add hundreds more fast-charging ports by late 2026.
This aggressive growth strategy is largely supported by over $52 million in federal funding through the National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure (NEVI) program. This investment is projected to fund the installation or upgrade of approximately 50 public EV fast-charging stations, collectively adding at least 260 DCFC ports and thereby doubling the state’s current public DCFC capacity. The overarching goal is to establish a robust backbone of high-powered charging along critical transportation arteries, enhancing confidence for EV drivers across the state.
Strategic development targets key highways to ensure comprehensive coverage, including Interstate 5 (especially south of Eugene), Interstate 205, Interstate 84, U.S. Highway 20, U.S. Highway 26, U.S. Highway 101, and U.S. Highway 97. These corridors are prioritized to address existing "charging deserts," particularly in rural and coastal regions. The second phase of NEVI funding aims to deploy approximately 40 new stations along these routes, ensuring that high-speed charging is accessible roughly every 50 miles, with the first stations from earlier funding expected to be operational by mid-2026.

There are currently 1,000 EV charging stations in Oregon, including Tesla Superchargers, ChargePoint, Electrify America, and other networks. This number is growing as new stations are deployed through the NEVI federal program and private investment.
Oregon has Level 2 chargers (240V, ideal for daily charging at 12-80 miles/hour) and DC Fast Chargers (DCFC) that can add 100+ miles of range in 20-30 minutes. Connector types include CCS, CHAdeMO, J1772, and Tesla NACS. Use Charge Map USA's filters to find the right charger for your vehicle.
Some Level 2 charging stations in Oregon offer free charging, particularly at shopping centers, hotels, and municipal locations. Use Charge Map USA to browse stations across 188 cities in Oregon and check individual station details for pricing information.
